Dear Sir/ Madam, Background Contract Labour has been a topic widely discussed & deliberated by Industries, Legislature & Media. For some business organizations, it is a tool of cost reduction, for others it is a tool to increase efficiency while for a few it serves the purpose of taking care of temporary & seasonal work fluctuations. The usage depends on the way it is proposed to be deployed and the results also vary accordingly. Various judicial pronouncements regarding Contract Labour (Regulation & Abolitions) Act, 1970 have given many permutations to the Act causing serious implications on the smooth operations in industry. Lately, the Constitution Bench of the Apex Court has shown the way towards regularization of contract labour. Duration : One Day Faculty Mr. Michael Dias is an eminent Lawyer and Secretary, The Employer’s Association – Delhi since 1986. He has wide experience of more than 30 years in the practice of Labour Laws and as a member of number of Industry Associations such as PHD Chamber of Commerce, FICCI, CII, ASSOCHAM to name a few. He is an Employer Representative on various Statutory Boards constituted by the Government of India, including ESIC, Apprenticeship Advisory Committee, Central Advisory Committee on Workmen’s Compensation and the like. He is also a visiting lecturer to various programmes on Labour Laws organised by professional Bodies. He has served in a number of Committees set up by Government of India for Labour Legislations & Arbitration including the Planning Commission. His strengths are comprehensive knowledge of various Empolyment Laws including Managing Contract Labour Law, besides representation of clients in various Labour Courts and Tribunials.
