E-commerce draft policy &
recommended changes
Earlier this month, online retailers had raised
concerns about the draft e-commerce rules with
government officials and sought more time to
suggest changes. As the deadline to submit
feedback comes to an end, we bring you all the
suggestions given by industry groups. We here
at ETtech have been closely tracking all the
important developments around the much-talked
and debated draft proposals for e-commerce in
India. Today, we are reporting on all the
recommendations from top industry groupings like
US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF),
Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI),
IndiaTech and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)
affiliate Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) which were
submitted on Wednesday. Whats worrying the
industry? They say the recommendations in the
draft policy are not under the purview of the
Department of Consumer Affairs. Changes
suggested like inclusion of related parties
and logistics service providers within the
definition of an e-commerce entity, ban of flash
sales and mandatory listing of local
alternatives while selling imported goods or
services will hurt the sector, they say.

Automotive Electronics Market to Cross $18 bn by
2027: Report
Indias automotive electronics market is likely
to cross $18 billion by 2027 from $6 billion
in 2020 with a CAGR of 17 per cent, a new
report said. Automotive electronics sales will
triple during the period, driven by rising
income levels and increasing customer preference
for in-vehicle digital experience. Passenger
vehicles are expected to capture nearly
two-thirds of the Indian automotive electronics
market driven by the rising usage of the
telematics control unit (TCU), infotainment and
other electronic components such as on-board
diagnostics (OBD), electronic control unit (ECU)
and anti-lock braking systems (ABS). Telematics
penetration in India remains low compared to
global standards. However, rising awareness
among people about advanced safety and
communication services, coupled with more
embedded connectivity service offerings by
automakers, will drive this market in the
future. Head-up display (HUD), blind-spot
monitoring system, auto-dimming mirror, advanced
driver assistance systems (ADAS) and automatic
transmission features remain mainstream features
for premium segment cars (cars with an
ex-showroom price of more than Rs 1,100,000).

DoT can't revoke RCom's licenses for 10 more
days: High Court
The Delhi High Court has directed the Department
of Telecommunications (DoT)
not to revoke Reliance Communications (RCom)
telecom licenses for another 10 days and has
asked the defunct telco to approach the
dedicated bankruptcy court for relief. DoT on
Tuesday told the court that RCom is a "dead
horse that is getting beaten to revive it unlike
other telcos which still have their licenses
valid." "I am of the view that the only remedy
for the petitioner is to approach the NCLT...Accordingly,
while permitting the withdrawal of the petition,
the interim arrangement as directed on 19th July
2021 will continue for a period of 10 days,"
said Justice Rekha Palli. The court's directions
on Monday will be of slight relief to Rcom's
resolution professional Deloitte, since the
company's 20 licenses were due to expire on July
19 and DoT had refused to renew it. RCom was
seeking an interim order from the court to
prevent DoT from cancelling its licenses which
would have meant that it would have to surrender
its most valued asset - spectrum - to the
government, virtually killing its resolution
process under IBC.

Godrej Appliances forays into dishwashers; eyes
15% market share by end of 2021-22
Godrej & Boyce, the flagship company of the Godrej
Group, on Tuesday announced its foray into
the dishwashers market and is eyeing 15 per cent
market share by the end of this financial year
in this segment. The pandemic has upped stress
level of consumers significantly. City-based
consumers particularly... are juggling their
office work with household chores while trying
to limit their dependence on domestic help to
avoid health risks. This has led to a surge in
effort minimising appliances like dishwashers.

ELCINA launches ELCINA Micro &
Small Industries Forum (EMSIF) to support Micro &
Small Industries
The Executive Committee of ELCINA has decided to
establish a Micro & Small Industries Forum (MSIF)
with the objective to focus on strengthening and
growing our Micro and Small industries to the
next level.
The Electronic Systems Design & Manufacturing (ESDM)
Sector is growing very rapidly and policy
support is being provided by Government to
attract large investments. At the same time
numerous Micro, Small and even Medium scale
electronics units have shut down due to
viability issues as a consequence of reduced and
zero tariffs under ITA-1 and trade barriers
which have rendered them unprofitable. MSIF is
being established to enable small units to avail
these benefits and become competitive.
The current government policies for supporting
this vulnerable segment have been found
inadequate and there benefits do not percolate
down to the Small units. Since implementation of
ITA-1 in April 2005, a very large number of
MSMEs have fallen by the wayside as they just
could not cope with the cut throat competition
they faced from imports, especially from China
and some South East Asian countries.

ELCINA EMS Task
Force Report:
(recently Launched by Mr. Ajay Sawhney, Secretary,
Min. of Electronics & IT)
ELCINA
constituted a Task Force to study the EMS Sector and
come up with a Research Report providing details of
the status and prospects of this ESDM segment. The
task force had representation from MeitY & Invest
India. The EMS Task Force commenced deliberations in
July 2020 and concluded the same in November, coming
up with valuable details such as the sectors
current size, growth potential, exports and policies
which impact its progress.
The Task Force findings are compiled in the form of
a report. As per report, globally EMS sector was
valued at US$ 832 Bn in 2019 and estimated to grow
to US$ 1055 Bn by 2025. ELCINA predicts that the
Indian EMS industry will gallop from US$ 23.5 Bn in
2019-20 to US$ 152 Bn by 2025. This effectively
means that it has the potential to grow from <3% of
the global industry to about 14% within 5 years.

Indian Printed Circuit
Board Industry & Market Research Report
The
evolution of miniaturization and sub-miniaturization in the
design of electronic equipment led to the emergence of a new
technique of inter-component wiring and assembly known as the
printed circuit board (PCB). This technology has now become the
backbone of electronic devices. They provide the required
mechanical support structure and electrical connect for the
circuit. In addition to providing the connectivity, they also
help to reduce the overall size and enhance the efficiency of
the device.
-
By 2020, the electronics market in India is expected to increase
with a CAGR of 25.1 per cent to USD 400 billion from USD 104
billion in 2015
-
Currently only 35% of this demand is currently being met by
local manufacturers. And for the rest 65%, India is still
dependent on imports.
-
Hence, PCB- being the backbone of electronics holds a huge
demand in India - Current demand of USD 2.01 Billion represents
the demand based on the total PCBs (which includes both the bare
board PCBs and the populated PCBs)
-
Current market size for bare PCBs is USD 1.2 Billion - Only 30%
of this demand for bare PCBs is currently being met by local PCB
manufacturers. And for the rest 70%, India.

Super
Capacitor-Market Landscape Study
A Supercapacitor or Ultracapacitor is a charge storage device
that stores electrical charges via electrochemical &
electrostatic processes and has an unusually high energy density
when compared to common capacitors. Due to their beneficial
properties like fast charging ability,
superior low temperature performance, long service and cycle
life, and reliability, Supercapacitors hold the potential to
replace or complement traditional batteries and capacitors in
several applications. Supercapacitors are already being used
world wide in number of applications ranging from automotive,
renewable energy to electronics. For more details you can visit
