The government aims for a $1 trillion digital economy by 2030, with electronics and IT each contributing about $500 billion. To reach this target, electronics manufacturing must grow at a steep 32% CAGR, compared with a projected 12% growth for IT services. Currently, electronics revenues stand at $125 billion, while IT services generate $283 billion.

Continued Validity of BIS Standards for Aluminium and Steel Components

 

Revised Indian Standards covering aluminium products, structural steel, steel chain slings, lifting hooks, and steel wire for hose reinforcement have been brought into effect from 29 December 2025. The corresponding earlier versions of these standards will continue to remain valid concurrently until 29 June 2026, allowing a transition period before withdrawal.

Interest Subvention Scheme Launched for MSME Export Credit

 

Interest Subvention for pre- and post-shipment rupee export credit has been launched under the Export Promotion Mission – Niryat Protsahan to reduce financing costs and improve working capital access for MSME exporters. Implemented on a pilot basis through the Reserve Bank of India, the scheme provides interest relief of 2.75 per cent per annum on eligible export credit, subject to a maximum benefit of Rs 50 lakh per exporter per financial year.

Anti-Dumping Duty on n-Butanol Imports Extended till July 2026

 

The Finance Ministry extended the anti-dumping duty on imports of normal butanol (n-butyl alcohol) from the European Union, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa, and the US until 12 July 2026, pending review to determine whether the levy should continue. The applicable anti-dumping duty will continue to remain in force up to and including 12 July 2026, unless it is revoked, superseded, or amended earlier.

Rescission of Flux Cored Solder Wire Quality Control Order

 

The Flux Cored Solder Wire (Quality Control) Order, 2023 has been rescinded in public interest, with immediate effect. The rescission does not affect actions already taken or obligations incurred prior to the withdrawal, which will continue to remain valid. As a result, the quality control requirements mandated under the 2023 order will no longer apply going forward unless reintroduced through a new regulatory framework.

Continued Validity of BIS Standards for Zinc-Aluminium Alloy Ingots and Ferrochromium

 

Specified BIS standards for zinc-aluminium alloy ingots, ferrochromium and related products will continue to remain in force concurrently until their respective withdrawal dates, in accordance with Rule 15(1) of the Bureau of Indian Standards Rules, 2018. This ensures continuity and regulatory certainty by allowing existing standards to remain applicable without interruption until formally withdrawn.

Amendment to Electrical Accessories Quality Control Requirements

 

The quality control requirements under the Electrical Accessories (Quality Control) Order, 2023 have been revised by removing the Indian Standard IS 7809 (Part 3/Sec 1): 1986, which relates to pressure-sensitive adhesive insulating PVC tapes, from the list of mandatory standards. As a result, this specific standard will no longer be applicable under the Order, while all other listed standards and requirements remain unchanged.

Revised Eligibility Criteria for Battery Electric Vehicles under PLI-Auto

 

The incentive eligibility conditions for Battery Electric Vehicles under the PLI Scheme for the Automobile and Auto Components Industry have been revised by introducing updated, category-specific performance benchmarks. The earlier reliance on FAME-II criteria has been replaced with defined standards for electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, four-wheelers (including e-buses), trucks and quadricycles, aligned with relevant PM E-DRIVE and FAME-II notifications where applicable.

The Machinery and Electrical Equipment Safety (Omnibus Technical Regulation) Order, 2024 has been withdrawn in public interest with immediate effect. The rescission removes the regulatory framework introduced under the 2024 order, while preserving the validity of actions already taken prior to its withdrawal.

Electronic Postal Exports Brought Under Customs Export Procedures

 

The amendment broadens the customs framework to explicitly cover exports by post processed electronically under Section 84 of the Customs Act, placing them on par with shipping bills and bills of export. It updates clearance, loading, and documentation provisions to recognise electronic entries filed through the customs automated system and foreign post offices that support such processing. Related references across eligibility conditions, explanations, and tables have been aligned accordingly, enabling smoother and more consistent handling of electronically processed postal exports.

Amendments to Customs and Central Excise Duty Drawback Rules

The amendments refine procedural aspects of the drawback mechanism and take effect in accordance with the notified changes.

Centre rolls out interest support, credit guarantee to push MSME exports

Days after launching the Market Access Support (MAS) initiative under the Export Promotion Mission (EPM), the Centre has rolled out two new financial measures to boost MSME exports – an interest subvention scheme and an export credit collateral guarantee. Introduced under the Niryat Protsahan sub-scheme, the steps aim to ease working capital and collateral constraints by lowering export credit costs and improving access to finance, with a 2.75% interest subvention on eligible pre- and post-shipment export loans.

MSME exporters get Rs 7,300 crore credit lifeline

The commerce department has rolled out a new interest subsidy scheme and a loan guarantee mechanism to ease credit access for MSME exporters. The interest subsidy scheme, with an outlay of Rs. 5,181 crore over six years, will offer a 2.75% subsidy on export loans, reset every six months and linked to global and domestic interest rates. In addition, a Rs. 2,114 crore guarantee corpus will support collateral-free lending, potentially unlocking Rs. 60,000–65,000 crore in export credit, providing relief to small businesses that face high borrowing costs.

  • Currently EMS Industry (Contract Manufacturing Services) are valued 832 Bn $ and are projected to grow 1055 Bn by 2025.

  • Domestic electronics manufacturing is estimated at USD 75 Bn of which 39 Bn constitutes EMS value. This is divided into 23.5 Bn domestic Mfg. and USD 15.5 Bn PCBS/Sub-Assembly imports.

  • Further USD 53.5 Bn is finished Electronic Goods imports of which USD 17 Bn is EMS value. Thus total EMS opportunity loss is US$ 32.5 Bn (15.5 +17).

  • The report estimates that EMS production can grow realistically from USD 23.5 Bn today to USD 152 Bn by 2025 at CAGR of 45%. This will meet 75% of the countries EMS requirement of US$ 203 Bn by 2025 against a total estimated market of 400 Bn.
