India To Witness Two New OSAT and Fab
Units In The Coming Months
Union minister for electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw has
now told the media that in the coming few months, the
country will be furnished with three new semiconductor fab
facilities with an approximate investment between $8-12
billion. Along with AMD’s launch of an international design
center in Bengaluru, the minister added that more
discussions are going on with Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Gujarat
and Karnataka governments for setting up the facilities. It
is highly expected that there will be at least two better
proposals for OSAT and fabrication units. "This sector, a
new industry for the country, will grow as a major
contributor to the entire developing manufacturing base of
electronics, telecom and defense electronics,” Vaishnaw
further added.

India needs to develop a slew of
companies that can own IPs in semiconductors:
Indian-American entrepreneur
Applauding India for taking steps in the semiconductor
industry that has emerged as a battleground for major global
powers, Kush Gulati, co-founder, president, and CEO of
Silicon Valley-headquartered Omni Design, said, Electronics
based on semiconductors are going to be absolutely
mission-critical. It is the backbone, the very backbone of
the future of technology and electronics. Machine learning
(ML) also is based on semiconductors. You have to build the
hardware to support ML. Therefore you've got to have the
company or country that controls these, an entity that is
good at circuit design or chip design. Chip manufacturing is
going to rule the world. It's kind of absolutely essential,
Gulati said.

‘Generous’ incentives have boosted
semiconductor ambitions: IT Secy
The geopolitical advantage for India of companies and
countries looking for resilient semiconductor and
electronics supply chains is only going to last for “four or
five years,” and that it was important to seize that
opportunity within this period, Secretary of Electronics and
Information Technology S. Krishnan said on Monday. A decade
ago, he recalled, Intel backed out of a semiconductor
packaging and testing facility in India due to a $100
million grant from the government falling through.
Circumstances have changed for the industry now, with
production-linked incentives and direct subsidies, Mr.
Krishnan said, speaking to industry executives at an event

India, Japan and a road to a resilient
Semiconductors supply chain
As the Indo-Japanese ties have passed the test of
reliability and also carried their old association legacy
with a positivity. Over the years, both nations have
confirmed their commitment towards global issues and their
cooperation ranges from cultural interaction to cooperation
in the field of science and technology to economic
cooperation, to the armed forces interaction and so on which
provided a depth to the Indo-Japanese relationship.
Considering the size of semiconductor, its role and various
use which includes use in the military equipment, a smooth
semiconductor supply chain is vital and any disruption to
the supply chain is a cause of concern and worry like saw

How to fight misinformation and fake
news during natural disasters
In the wake of natural disasters, such as the recent
torrential rains that battered Chennai, the public’s
attention is not just focused on immediate dangers and
safety measures but also on combating the spread of
misinformation. Traditionally, government agencies have been
‘go-to’ sources of information in events of disasters.
However, the rise of social media has seen community groups
and volunteers taking the place of official channels. While
these informal sources often provide local information
faster, some of them may be less reliable. A report
published in The Conversation says that many people are
switching off from official warnings because they find them
hard to understand, or may feel there are too many of them.
It may be that they have seen too many situations where the
warnings do not affect them. This gives a scope for
misinformation to proliferate.

Spending to Reach $679 Billion in 2024, claims Researchers
An exclusive survey report by Gartner has now revealed that
the worldwide end-user spending on public cloud services is

innovation can stop or even slow. The tables are turning for
cloud providers as cloud models no longer drive business
outcomes, but rather, business outcomes shape cloud models.”
All segments of the cloud market are expected to see growth
in 2024. Infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) is forecast to
experience the highest end-user spending growth in 2024 at
26.6%, followed by platform-as-a-service (PaaS) at 21.5

Global telecom industry body GSMA
seeks 5G spectrum allocation in 6 GHz band in India
Allocation of 5G spectrum under the 6 GHz band for mobile

its capacity. The telecom industry said the cost of network
rollout in this frequency will be lower as compared to the
next set of suitable spectrum for 5G available in higher
frequency band.

E-commerce and Delivery Giants Go

Delivery giants are making a smart move by using electric

things move around in cities. They’re focusing on business
and big groups of vehicles, thinking that this will speed up
the use of electric vehicles (EVs). They’re targeting areas
like food delivery, moving goods, and taxi services because
EVs are cheaper in the long run. Some big names, like
Amazon, want to add 10,000 EVs to their delivery vehicles in
India by 2025. Zomato plans to have all its delivery
vehicles running on electricity by 2030, and Uber aims to
