Indian military cant be a
silent spectator to global semiconductor boom.
See US, China
Indias
semiconductor mission must converge with its
military Atmanirbhar ambitions as a
geopolitical priority. The country needs
hundreds of chip startups to serve its military
and commercial needs. India is home to 20 per
cent of the worlds chip designers, almost all
of whom are employed in the back offices of
foreign firms. It is time our human talent works
to further our national interests. The military
cannot afford to be a silent spectator. Instead,
it must play an instrumental role in building
domestic chip capabilities. From phones to car
keys, semiconductors are ubiquitous in our daily
lives. As a result, governments around the globe
are investing billions of dollars in building
domestic semiconductor capabilities. This effort
includes Prime Minister Narendra Modis $10
billion Semiconductor Mission, the US
governments $208 billion Chips Act, and Chinas
eye-popping $1.4 trillion investment vision for
its semiconductor sector by 2025.

India wants to quadruple electronics biz in just
four years
India's Ministry of State
for Electronics & Information Technology
released a report this week exploring how the
subcontinent might increase electronics
production by roughly 400 percent and exports by
an ambitious 750 percent by 2026."The government
is laser-focused on achieving the target of $300
billion electronic production by 2026," said Electronics
and IT minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar on
Monday. The target for electronics exports by
2026 is $120 billion. The report was written in
conjunction with the India Cellular and
Electronics Association (ICEA). It was designed
to help the government pinpoint the challenges
to get to this extremely ambitious goal from
where India currently stands: it manufactures
electronic goods worth $76 billion at present,
with just $16 billion of that sent to export.

India only
major country to grow in smart personal audio
market
India
was the only country that bucked the global
negative trend in the smart personal audio
shipments in the second quarter (Q2) this year,
registering a huge 55 per cent growth.The
worldwide smart personal audio shipments fell by
1.7 per cent year on year to 98.1 million units,
according to market research firm Canalys.
India, the world`s third largest smart personal
audio market, increased shipments by a massive
55 per cent. But growth in India was insufficient
to offset the overall global decline, with the
US down 1 per cent and China down 13 per
cent.TWS was the only smart personal audio
category to grow, recording 8 per cent growth at
63 million units, and India is the key driver
behind the TWS growth."Without India`s
impressive growth, the global TWS market would
have gone into a decline," said analyst Ashweej

Road ahead
for boosting electronics manufacturing in India
The
Indian electronics market, which was estimated
to be around $75 billion last year, is now
expected to grow by 6-7% annually for the next
six years. This was not the case if one were to
assess the situation two years ago. There was a
definite dent in manufacturing plants being shut
and demands lowering. However, just like
everything gets better with time, so did the
electronics industry. The best lesson we all
learned from the pandemic was that we need to
have in-house manufacturing units. Due to the
pandemic and trade being shut, several
manufacturers and retailers found it hard to
keep up with demand. For instance,
semiconductors and panels were so scarce in
India that the television industry had months of
backlog as parts were not available. But not
anymore. Due to several PLI schemes and the
Make-in-India initiative, several plants are
being set up for end-to-end manufacturing in
India. The Electronics Development Fund policy
and the Modified Special Incentive Package
Scheme have been introduced to promote
manufacturing.

Slack offers

e-signature process
Slack
has announced a new contact lifecycle management
(CLM) integration with e-signature platform
DocuSign, allowing users to navigate the full
agreement processes inside their Slack

to send, sign and collaborate on agreements with
DocuSign eSignature for Slack, much of the
process still required the need for access to
multiple, disparate systems, for internal and
external stakeholders alike. The new DocuSign CLM
for Slack app instead allows colleagues and
customers to navigate the full agreement
process, including redlining, reviewing and
approving, directly within Slack. This removes
the need for signatories to check their emails

Decline in PC and tablet shipments will continue

Global shipments of PCs and

again in 2024, according to a new study by
IDC.Shipments of traditional PCs are forecast to
decline 12.8% to 305.3 million units in 2022,
while IDC expects tablet shipments will fall
6.8% to 156.8 million. The combined market for
PCs and tablets will decline by 2.6% in 2023
before returning to growth in 2024, according to
IDC. It attributes the reduced outlook to
inflation, the weakening global economy, and the
surge in buying over the past two years.
Consumer demand has slowed, education demand has
largely been fulfilled, and enterprise demand is
getting pushed out due to worsening
macroeconomic conditions, IDC said.

Addigy enables IT to automate Apple device
configuration policies
The tool is designed to
make it much easier for enterprise IT to apply
policies across their Apple device fleets. What
tends to happen when attempting to apply
policies at a device level is that IT must do so
manually doing. This seems likely to get easier
with iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and macOS Ventura, but
it remains a time-consuming challenge for
IT.Addigy explains that Flex will save IT admins
time by eliminating the tedious task of manually
assigning Apple device policies to new or
existing devices. "Addigy's Flex Policies is a
game-changer for not only IT admins managing
Apple devices but also the industry," "By making
it easier for IT teams to onboard Apple devices,
we're destigmatizing Apple devices in the
workplace. The reality is Apple usage in the
workplace is expected to grow over the next
several years, and whatever we, as a company,
can do to assist IT admins and MSPs with
managing these devices is a win for everyone."

How a
pro-manufacturing ecosystem in India has
resulted in creating affordable consumer
electronics products
The Government of India has
taken a lot of important decisions in recent
years to boost the manufacturing ecosystem in
the country. The Make in India program,
improvement in ease of doing business, the
production linked incentive (PLI) scheme, and
the introduction of goods and services tax (GST)
have collectively improved the manufacturing
ecosystem. This noticeable improvement has
attracted domestic and international companies
to the country and helped make consumer
electronics more affordable for the end
consumer.Gone are the days when the wealthy only
bought automatic washing machines, dishwashers,
portable speakers, or LED televisions. Coupled
with the rising income levels, the price point
for these products has seen a correction from a
few years ago. It is now well within reach of
most modern Indian consumers.

MSMEs
in long steel market to grow by 5-10%: CRISIL
According
to a CRISIL Research Micro, small and medium
enterprises (MSMEs) in the long steel segment
will grow by 5-10 per centn It will rise despite
of a indicative 2-4 per cent fall in industry
revenue in 2022-23 (FY23).The fall will be due
to the sharp correction in domestic steel prices
following the imposition of export duty by the
government, together with falling exports.
Earlier during the time period between January
and May there was a surge in domestic steel
prices which led the imposition of export duty.
The move led to a swift 25 per cent correction
in the price of flat steel which accounts for
almost 80 per cent of finished steel exports and
is dominated by large integrated steel players
from its April peak. Long steel saw a limited
correction. CRISIL expect flat-steel prices to
correct by over 10 per cent in FY23, even as
long-steel prices remain largely resilient.
